RESPONSIBILITIES

The Construction Technician performs a wide range of skilled construction tasks within our health clubs including but not limited to maintenance of plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilating, and/or air conditioning and equipment at a level not requiring formal licensure. The Construction Technician may be required to perform tasks of other unlicensed trades, such as operating light equipment, carpentry, and painting.

  • Continuously modeling and promoting the NYSC and our family of brands mission, mission statement, and values with pride and integrity.
  • Providing a legendary member experience by consistently executing the Five Agreements.
  • Reviewing and adhering to all NYSC and our family of brands documents including but not limited to policies and procedures, employee handbook, state supplement, codes of conduct, etc.
  • Communicating effectively with management staff through e-mail.
  • Working closely with management and other technicians in group on issues that are larger than singular repairs.
  • Providing necessary information in regard to renovations or annual maintenance needs.
  • Attending all training sessions set up for equipment/facilities by NYSC and our family of brands to expand skill sets.
  • Cost savings driven by ensuring preventative maintenance is completed and scheduled during downtime.
  • Adhering to a ticket system for repairs which is monitored for progress.
  • Sending a daily action plan in the morning detailing which gyms are being visited from their route.
  • Sending a daily recap of repair work accomplished inside of the club that day.
  • Performs plumbing, electrical, masonry, HVAC and/or carpentry work in the construction, maintenance, repair, remodeling and alteration of building structures and facilities according to work orders or verbal instructions by using hand and power tools such as saws, hammers, chisels, levels, drills, presses, sanders, table saws, joiners, planers, wood lathes, and mortising machines to repair doors, windows, window frames, floors, walls, ceilings, partitions, and office furniture, installs, repairs, and finishes sheetrock/drywall, paints interior and exterior finishes, installs finished hardware such as door locks, hinges, door checks, installs floor coverings such as LVT and rubber tile, constructs small additions to existing structures and makes minor roofing repairs.
  • Installs plumbing fixtures and connects them to outlet and inlet pipes by fitting with gaskets, couplings, traps, and valves, soldering connections to seal joints, installs new electrical conduit, wiring, switches, lights, and outlets, removes or relocates existing lights, switches and/or outlets, and does concrete and ceramic tile work.
  • Completes assigned project tasks with quality workmanship by inspecting the work site to determine the materials, equipment, tool requirements, and method to be used, developing a plan or layout for the project or following a blueprint, wiring diagram, sketch or schematic, assembling, fabricating or building and installing materials, equipment, or fixtures as required by the scope of work, providing an estimate of repair or replacement costs beyond the capability to perform, and recommending the use of additional departmental personnel or contract personnel to meet assigned completion targets.
  • Contributes to the overall success of the Construction Team by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • At least four years of experience in a plumbing, electrical, mechanical, or carpentry building trade is required.
  • Plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or carpentry abilities are required, including the ability to use small hand and power tools, precision measuring and testing devices, mechanical equipment, and various building trades materials.
  • The ability to understand and interpret blueprints and schematics is required.
  • The ability to understand and follow specific instructions and procedures is required.
  • The ability to read understand, follow specific instructions and procedures is required. Computer literacy is required.
  • Incumbents in this position frequently lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis; prolonged standing and frequent bending, stooping, and reaching occur on a daily basis.
  • Mobility and dexterity sufficient to operate manual and electrically-powered tools and related equipment is required.
  • The work performed by incumbents in this position occurs throughout multiple locations and often involves climbing stairs buildings and working at heights from ladders or scaffolding.
  • The work is performed both indoors and outdoors, occasionally in environments that are dusty, noisy, or which could have work hazards.
